PURPOSE:To recover urokinase from urine in high efficiency, in high purity and at low cost, by bringing raw urine into contact with a polyacrylonitrile type ultrafilter treated with an alkali. CONSTITUTION:About 0.1-1N aqueous solution of a hydroxide (pH 10-13), preferably sodium hydroxide is circulated through an ultrafilter of polyacrylonitrile type having about 10,000-50,000 fraction molecular weight for 10-60min, the ultrafilter is allowed to stand for 10-20hr, washed with cold purified water and raw urine is circulated through the ultrafilter. These operations are repeated several times to prepare the ultrafilter treated with an alkali. Raw urine adjusted to pH 6-8 is brought into contact with the ultrafilter by a plate type module at about 1-5kg/cm<2> operation pressure to adsorb urokinase. A concentrated solution (unadsorbed solution) is removed, the ultrafilter is washed at pH 6-8 under low ion strength of about 0.005-0.05 M and urokinase adsorbed on the ultrafilter is pushed out and eluted at pH 6-8 under ion strength of about 0.05-0.2 M at operation pressure similar to that of concentration.
