PURPOSE:To improve resistance to wear and corrosion by coating a thin cobalt alloy film medium contg. nickel and chromium on a nonmagnetic metallic underlying layer coated on an underlying body then subjecting the coating to a heat treatment to from a chromium oxide film on the thin cobalt alloy film medium. CONSTITUTION:A metal such as chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, vanadium, rhenium, gold or bismuth or the alloy thereof is coated on the underlying body 1 to form the nonmagnetic metallic underlying layer 2 thereon. The cobalt alloy contg. nickel and chromium is then coated thereon to form the thin metallic film medium 3. Such laminated body is subjected to the heat treatment to form the chromium oxide film 4 on the medium 3. The resistance to wear and corrosion is improved by producing the magnetic memory body in the above-mentioned manner.
