PURPOSE:To produce a document including KANA (Japanese syllabary), KANJI (Chinese character), the alphabet, numeric character, etc., with a simple operation, by reading the expressing ways out of a storage means in accordance with the types of input characters and converting the input characters into the expression characters based on the character types and the expressing way. CONSTITUTION:When a character type is set via a character type setting key, an input device 11 delivers a character type code C2 to an expressing way storage part 12 and an internal code generating part 13. The part 12 outputs a expressing way code C3 corresponding to the relevant character type code C2 to the part 13. Then the device 11 outputs a character code C1 with input of a character and the part 13 converts the character of the code C1 into an expression character for display or print by both codes C2 and C3 for production of an internal code C4. This code C4 is sent to a document storage, a display device, printer, etc., to be stored, displayed and printed respectively.
