PURPOSE:To industrially obtain the titled compound as an intermediate for producing a compound having controlling action on platelet agglutination and platelet adhesion in high yield, by cyclizing a (thienyl) ethyl hexamethylene tetramine salt in the presence of an inorganic acid. CONSTITUTION:A compound expressed by formula I (X represents halogen atom or sulfonyl derivative having alkyl or aryl) [example; 2-(2-thienyl)ethyl paratoluene-sulfonate, etc.] is reacted with hexamethylenetetramine to obtain a 2-(2-thienyl)ethylhexamethylele-tetramine salt expressed by formula II [example; paratoluenesulfonyl salt of 2-(2-thenyl)ethyl hexamethylene-tetramine, etc.]. The product is cyclized in the presence of an inorganic acid to afford 4,5,6,7- tetrahydrothieno[2,3-C]pyridine expressed by formula III.
