PURPOSE:To make a remarkable change of an image forming means unnecessary and to perform the automatic exchange of developing devices in a small scale, by making a developing device carried to the vicinity of an image carrier by means of a moving means practically movable in the direction different from the developing device carrying direction of a carrying path. CONSTITUTION:A developing device supplying device C is provided in the vicinity of a photosensitive drum 1 and has two developing devices 2 and 3 which are used for different colors. When the positioned developing device 2 is exchanged with the developing device 3 of another color, a motor 30 is driven in the direction, in which a press cam 32 is rotated in the direction shown by an arrow C'. Then the developing device 2 is returned to the same position as that of the developing device 3 and the developing device pushing member 22 of bleach 7 is returned in the direction shown by an arrow A'. When the developing device 3 is set to a prescribed position, the developing device 2 stays under the setting position. Thereafter, selection and carrying are completed by moving the member 22 of the breach 7 in the direction shown by an arrow A by actuating a working body 23 and the developing device 3 is positioned to the photosensitive body by means of a positioning mechanism 8.
