PURPOSE:To improve coupling efficiency by guiding light out slantingly to the light emission surface normal direction of a light emission area and coupling the slantingly guided-out light with an optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The light is coupled through a lens with the optical fiber 4 slantingly to the normal direction 6 of the light emission surface of the light emission area 1 of a light emitting element, e.g., at an angle theta to the light emission surface normal. Consequently, the light emission area 1 is viewed slantingly and the apparent light emission diameter (effective light emission diameter) decreases, so that the optical coupling efficiency is improved by 1/costheta as compared with that of the conventional system. Thus, the optical coupling output to one fiber is improved, so the transmission distance and SN ratio are improved greatly and the function of a system is improved through an optical device.
