PURPOSE:To obtain a medium with a uniform magnetic characteristics regardless of a position, by forming the medium so that film thickness of Cr as base layers formed on plural substrates is formed at the substrate on an end part thicker than at the substrate on the center part of a substrate holder. CONSTITUTION:When the medium is manufactured by mounting several sheets of substrates 109 on one substrate holder 101, and forming a magnetic layer by a sputtering method carrying continuously those substrate holders 101, the coercive force of the medium consisting of the substrate 109 being positioned at the end part of the substrate holder 101 is reduced than that of the medium consisting of the substrate 109 being positioned at the center part. Such defect can be removed by forming the film thickness of the Cr base layer formed on the substrate 109 being positioned at the end part of the substrate holder 101 thicker than that of the substrate being positioned at the center part. In such way, it is possible to manufacture the medium whose coercive force is uniformized with high productivity.
