PURPOSE:To obtain the title modifier excellent in compatibility with a synthetic resin and excellent in an effect of, e.g., giving improved surface properties, shrinkage preventive property and improved impact resistance to a molding, by incorporating a specified hydrogenated polydiene/polyester block copolymer in a modifier. CONSTITUTION:An organic dicarboxylic acid anhydride (e.g., maleic anhydride) and a 1,2-epoxide (e.g., propylene oxide) are reacted with a hydrogenated polydiene compound (e.g., polybutadiene) having active hydrogen groups such as hydroxyl or carboxyl groups in the molecule in the presence of a catalyst. In this way, a hydrogenated polydiene/polyester block copolymer in which at least one polyester unit is connected to one polydiene compound unit through an ester bond can be produced. The purpose modifier for synthetic resin materials is obtained by using this block copolymer as an effective component.
