PURPOSE:To improve the durabioity of a contact chip, and also, to prevent the short circuit accident of the contact chip and a base metal, by placing a non-conductive heat resisting member in the front end part of the contact chip. CONSTITUTION:The electrode wire of a solid wire or a flux cored wire, which is fed by a roller 1in a cutting torch is connected to one terminal of a power source 3 through a contact chip 4. Also, the other terminal of the power source 3 is connected to a base metal to be cut 5, and the wire 2 projecting from the chip 4 is inserted into the cutting part of the base metal 5, by which an arc is generated between the wire 2 and the base metal 5. Subsequently, the wire 2 is fed in accordance with its consumption, a fluid is jetted out of a nozzle 6 in the periphery of the chip 4, while melting the base metal 5, and the base metal of a molten metal is blown off and cut. A non-electric conductive heat resisting member 8 provided on the tip face of the chip 4 prevents a fact that the chip 4 is damaged due to arc heat and sticking, etc., of the splash of molten metal, when cutting is being executed, and also, even if the base metal 5 and the chip 4 are brought into contact with each other, an electric conduction from the contact part is prevented.
