PURPOSE:To produce a precursor of an antitumor alkaloid by an enzymatic reaction, by bonding catharanthine with vindoline in the presence of a catalytic amount of a compound containing an iron component capable of participating in an oxidation-reduction reaction. CONSTITUTION:Vindoline is bonded to catharanthine in the presence of a catalytic amount of a compound containing an iron component capable of participating in an oxidation-reduction reaction. The iron-containing compound is a compound containing hem-deficient molecular group and selected from peroxidase and hemin or an isoenzyme-type peroxidase selected from microperoxidase, horseradish peroxidase and peroxidase originated from Catharanthus roseus. The yield of the objective compound can be improved by carrying out the bonding process in the presence of a peroxide such as hydrogen peroxide.
