PURPOSE:To simply form an electrodeposited film having superior adhesion and denseness on the surface of an electrically nonconductive article made of synthetic resin or the like by chemically forming a thin film of an electrically conductive polymer on the surface of the article and carrying out electroplating. CONSTITUTION:A monomer for an electrically conductive polymer is brought into contact with an oxidizing agent and polymerized on the surface of an article made of synthetic resin, glass or ceramics as an electrically nonconductive substance to form a thin film of an electrically conductive polymer or a composite film thereof on the surface of the article. The electrically conductive film is then electroplated with a metal.
