PURPOSE:To suitably detect the condition of the fault of a communication network by separately setting a singlet transmission error and a multi transmission error on a packet in respective general nodes when the transmission error detection between nodes is executed. CONSTITUTION:A node 2 inspects a transmission error in a link between one node at the upstream and its own node by inspecting a packet checking by a branch inserting control part 5 to the relaying packet sent successively on a transmission line. At this time, when the transmission error is detected, a singlet error detecting flag on a packet status is set, and further, when the transmission error is detected already on other link and the singlet error detecting flag on the packet status is set, the multi error detecting flag provided newly in the packet status is set and sent to a transmission line 4. Thus, in the receiving node, a fault generating place on the link can be segmented to one place or plural places and the fault generating place can be easily detected.
