PURPOSE:To provide a composition for oral cavity, containing superoxide dismutase and useful as a preventive and remedy for periodontal diseases, especially pyorrhea alveolaris. CONSTITUTION:The objective oral cavity composition having the above effect can be produced by compounding (A) superoxide dismutase, especially human superoxide dismutase with (B) catalase or (C) one or more kinds of amino acids or their derivatives selected e.g. from taurine, glycine, aspartic acid, histidine, lysine and acylglutamic acid and forming the mixture in the form of a liquid agent, solid agent, ointment, gel or dentifrice such as a liquid agent for injection or infusion, a liquid agent for mouthwashing, a tablet (especially a tablet attachable to gingiva), a chewing gum, an oily ointment, an emulsion ointment, toothpaste, powdery dentifrice, wet tooth powder, etc. The amount of the components A and B is about 1X10<-4>-1wt% each and that of the component C is about 0.05-5wt%.
