PURPOSE:To omit a Baud rate setting job at the side of a peripheral input/ output device by utilizing the reception data given from a host device to obtain the transfer Baud rate of the host device. CONSTITUTION:A host device 6 receives the rise information of a peripheral input/output device via a transmission line and then transmits the prescribed specific dummy code data having such a format that is shown in a diagram to the peripheral input/output device. A reception data pulse length detecting part 8 detects the length of the space state of the dummy code data. An internal CPU 5 finds a Baud rate from said detected length value and sets the output of a Baud rate generator 2 to be outputted to a communication controller 1 via a Baud rate control register 9. Thus the Baud rate of the peripheral input/ output device is set for execution of transfer of data to the device 6.
