PURPOSE:To enable an operation to easily find invalid data by storing the invalid data with a code different from normally used codes when said invalid data comes. CONSTITUTION:Document data sent from an external data source is stored in a storage means A of a character processor. Invalid data included in this document data is detected by a discriminating means B, and a writing means C substitutes the invalid data with a prescribed code easy to discriminate in accordance with the discrimination output of the discriminating means B and stores this code in the storage means A.
