PURPOSE:To obtain pitch fiber with increased strength and reduced fiber breakage frequency, outstanding in fiber handleability, by incorporating raw pitch with a polymer incompatible with said pitch. CONSTITUTION:The objective pitch fiber can be obtained by incorporating (A) raw pitch for the production of carbon fiber (pref., with optical anisotropy) with (B) pref. 2-20wt.% of a polymer incompatible with the pitch A (pref., polyphenylene oxide, polyethersulfone or polyamidimide).
