PURPOSE:To reduce the increase in capacity of a word dictionary due to the registration of honorific expression and also to reduce the complicatedness of a registering method, by deciding a Chinese word or a Japanese word based on the reading of each word and adding prefixes 'GO' and 'O' to the Chinese and Japanese words respectively in HIRAGANA (cursive form of Japanese syllabary). CONSTITUTION:An expression 'TOCHAKU' in KANJI (Chinese character) and a reading 'TOCHAKU' in KATAKANA (Square form of Japanese syllabary) are inputted from a word input means 1. Then, a KANJI sound deciding means 2 performs a retrieval out of 'TOCHAKU' (KATAKANA) to obtain two KANJI SOUNDS 'TO' and 'CHAKU'. Thus signals showing the detection of KANJI sounds are sent to a prefix adding means 3. The means 3 receives said signals from the means 2 in addition to the expression 'TOCHAKU' (KANJI) already received from the means 1 and therefore adds a prefix 'GO' right before the 'TOCHAKU' (KANJI) to send the relevant character string to a display means 4. The means 4 displays 'GO TOCHAKU'. If an expression 'TSUKI' (KANJI and HIRAGANA) and a reading 'TSUKI' (KATAKANA) are supplied from the means 1, the means 2 detects no KANJI sound. Thus the means 3 adds a prefix 'O' right before the 'TSUKI' and a character string 'O TSUKI' is displayed by the means 4.
