PURPOSE:To eliminate clogging of a pipe and enable safe operation, by attaching an external circulation pipe to a slurry storage tank, circulating the slurry at a specific flow rate, extracting a part of the circulating slurry, passing through a sieve and supplying the sieved slurry to a reaction system as a coal- liquefaction slurry. CONSTITUTION:A slurry storage tank 1 free from exhaustion opening is provided with an external circulation pipe and slurry is circulated through the pipe with a circulation pump 6. The amount of circulating slurry per 1hr is made to be larger than the maximum storage capacity of the slurry storage tank 1 and the flow rate of the slurry flowing through the exterior circulation pipe is adjusted to >=0.15m/sec. At least a part of the circulating slurry is continuously or intermittently extracted from the bottom of the slurry storage tank 1 and classified by sieving. At least a part of the fraction passed through the sieve is supplied to a reaction system as the coal-liquefaction slurry.
