PURPOSE:To attain a compact and light handy scanner and to simplify a handling by separating a bar code scanner and a reader and operating the scanner by hand and fixing the reader. CONSTITUTION:A canning light outgoing from the outgoing part to the handy scanner 4 is irradiated on the code 2 of goods, scattered and reflected on the bar code. This reflected signal light is made incident on the detecting part of the reader 5 to read. Thus, the detecting device and the demodulation device of the reflected signal light are provided in the reader 5 side and only the scanner is provided in the handy scanner 4. Thereby, the handy scanner 4 is extremely compact and light to simplify the handling operation.
