PURPOSE:To input character strings without being aware of the number of characters to be produced within an area by deciding a line feed position of an input character string to store it in a head position table and then storing the coordinates of the character start point of each line in an arrangement coordinate table. CONSTITUTION:A head position table 30 stores the order number of character to be displayed at the head of a line out of a character string having the order numbers and to be displayed. An arrangement coordinate table 40 stores the display coordinates of the character to be displayed at the line head. A line feed processing means 10 compares the display width of a display frame 9 with a displayed character string and performs line feed processing. Then the character string length designated for display with addition of the order number is compared with the display width. Then the order number of a first character of the character string having its length larger than the display width is written in the table 30 each time. At the same time, the coordinates are written in the table 40. Then the character string to be displayed is subjected to automatic line feed within the display width and is displayed. In such a way, the line feed processing is automatically carried out.
