PURPOSE:To obtain a copolymeric polyester having a high elastic modulus, a high strength and an excellent transparency, by reacting a specified copolymeric oligomer with a dihydroxy compound and a dicarboxylic acid, acylating the product and polymerizing the acylated product in a vacuum. CONSTITUTION:5-95mol.% (in terms of repeating units) starting oligoester or polyester consisting of repeating units of formula I is reacted with 95-5mol.% hydroxy carboxylic acid of formula II to prepare a copolymeric oligomer, which is then acylated with an acylating agent. The acylated product is polymerized in a vacuum after a dihydroxy compound of formula III and a dicarboxylic acid compound of formula IV are added to the system and reacted. In the formulas, R<1>, R<4>, and R<5> are each a 6-20C bivalent aromatic hydrocarbon group or the like and R<3> is a 6-20C bivalent aromatic hydrocarbon group which forms an aromatic ring.
