PURPOSE:To increase a Kerr rotating angle, to improve SN at the time of reproduction and to lower a Curie point by using a thin amorphous alloy film formed by adding Co to metals selected from two groups to constitute a recording medium having an axis of easy magnetization perpendicularly to the film plane. CONSTITUTION:The recording medium having the axis of easy magnetization perpendicular to the film plane is formed of the thin amorphous film formed by selecting respectively one kind of the metal from Gd, Tb, Dy, and Ho and one kind of the metal from Pb and Sn and adding Co thereto. The Kerr rotating angle thetak is, therefore, increased and the CN at the time of reproduction is improved. Recording at the low Curie point Tc is permitted.
