PURPOSE:To diagnose both recording and reproducing optical systems regardless of an optical disk by moving an optical head up to the position of a reflector so that the input information is projected from a recording optical head of an optical head and reflected by the reflector to be received and read by a reproduction checking optical head for diagnosis. CONSTITUTION:A reflector 7 is set at the outside of an optical disk 5 as its dummy under the equivalent conditions (distance, reflecting angle, etc.) to the disk 5. In a diagnosis mode, a recording/reproduction checking optical head 3 is moved up to the position of the reflector 7. Then, the information is projected from a recording optical head 3a, reflected by the reflector 7 and read by a reproduction checking optical head 3b. Thus, it is possible to diagnose an optical system regardless of the disk 5.
