PURPOSE:To simply specify the space curves of different pitches and to generate a curved surface in a short time by dividing an existing space curve in the prescribed pitch to connect these divided curves together and generating a new space curve with said pitch. CONSTITUTION:A processor 202 obtains the length of a segment connecting the spot trains of two standard curves which specifies a rough machining curved surface stored in a curved line/curved surface memory 206. Then, the dividing numbers M1 and M2 are obtained for the finishing work pitch (b) set previously and the larger one of both numbers is defined as a dividing number M. The dividing pitches (b) and (b') are obtained from the length of the segment and the number M and the standard curves and a space curve are divided by the pitches (b) and (b'). Then the i-th dividing point Si of a space curve divided into M pieces is connected to the corresponding dividing point of another space curve. Thus a finishing process curved surface is produced. In such a way, the space curves of different pitches can be simply specified and a curve surface is obtained in a short time.
