PURPOSE:To automatically execute a static convergence correction in a state displaying an image by diagonally providing photoelectric conversion elements for a scanning direction on the peripheral part of a screen. CONSTITUTION:When static convergence deviation is generated by temperature or the like after finishing convergence adjustment, pattern signals 38 and 37 are light-received on the one dimentional photoelectric conversion elements 30 and 31 diagonally provided in the scanning direction on the peripheral part of the screen. Then based on the output of the conversion elements 30 and 31, a position is detected by a position detection circuit 36. By the detection signal, a convergence correction circuit 34 is controlled. Thus the static convergence correction can be automatically executed in the state displaying the video on the screen.
