PURPOSE:To obtain a mothproofing agent for clothes, containing an oxalic acid ester, such as dimethyl oxalate or di-n-butyl oxalate, as an active ingredient, having low toxicity and by no means inferior to conventional mothproofing agents at all. CONSTITUTION:A mothproofing agent for clothes, containing a compound expressed by the formula (R1 and R2 are 1-4C alkyl which may be same or different) as an active ingredient, having high expellent effects on insect pests of clothes, such as larvae of clothes moths and excellent preventing effects on eating damage by the larvae. Solid dimethyl oxalate in the compound expressed by the formula is directly used or together with other drugs or carriers formed into tablet of granule or a liquid substance is soaked into carriers and prepared in the form of a pharmaceutical for use. A monoester expressed by the formula (either of R1 and R2 is H) can be similarly used.
