The method of unloading a vessel uses a crane fitted with a cargo hook. The tension in the cargo hook is continuously controlled and in case a predetermined tension is exceeded, the cargo hook has a quick-release operated from the offshore platform. The operation of the cargo hook takes place manually. The crane comprises a standing part rope and a wire rope adapted to coact with a lower block to which a cargo hook is attached by a connector fitted with an axial bearing. The cargo hook is provided with a quick-release which is controllable from a remote point.
