PURPOSE:To obtain a good-quality image having no blurring by mounting a shielding member which shields a part of the aperture of an electric discharge case and has electrical conductivity on the upper stream side of the aperture of said base in the conveying direction of an image carrier in such a manner than said member can be dismounted from the discharge case. CONSTITUTION:The aperture side of the discharge case 10 of a transfer device is disposed oppositely to the image carrier 1 and the shielding member 13 which shields a part of the aperture of the case and has the electrical conductivity is provided on the upper stream side of the aperture in the transfer paper conveyance direction. The discharge charge is partly shielded by the member 13 when a high voltage is impressed from a high-voltage power supply 12 to a charge wire 11 extended in the case 10 and, therefore, the charge no longer leaks to the upper stream side of the case 10. The transfer of a toner T to a transfer paper 9 side before the transfer paper 9 tightly contacts the image carrier 1 at the time of transfer is, therefore, obviated and the sharp and good- quality image having no image blurring in the peripheral part of the image is obtd.
