PURPOSE:To form an inorganic foam having the desired shape in simple process, by pouring a paste-like inorganic foam raw material in a mold for molding and drying the raw material without pressing to afford a preform and directly calcining and foaming the resultant preform. CONSTITUTION:The aimed inorganic foam is formed by the following processes: Process for preparing an inorganic foam raw material mainly consisting of a natural glassy mineral into paste and process for pouring the paste-like inorganic foam raw material in a mold for molding and drying the raw material to provide a preform and calcining and foaming the resultant preform. The paste-like inorganic foam raw material is prepared by blending a natural glassy mineral which is a main component with a decomposable foaming agent, foam modifier, thickener and water. The blend is preferably carried out in a blend ratio of 1.0-2.0pts.wt. decomposable foaming agent, 0.2-0.4pt.wt. foam modifier, 0.7-1.5pts.wt. thickener and 67-75pts.wt. water to 100pts.wt. natural glassy mineral.
