PURPOSE:To safely and economically produce a cast slab having no crack by making the sum of a synthetic strain caused by bend-straightening and bulging in non-solidified shell at the inner part of continuous casting and irregularity of rolls, and a driving roll rotating compressed strain to less than the limited strain generating the internal crack. CONSTITUTION:The sum of measured total epsilonT of the straightened strain epsilonu% generating at the time of bend-straightening at the non-solidified shell part 9 at the inner part of the continuous casting at bending part by rolls 15, 16, the bulging strain epsilonb% developing by bulging quantity deltab between the rolls 20 and miss-alignment strain epsilonm% developing by bulge-type miss-alignment quantity deltam and the compressed strain epsiloncpc% given to the cast slab by the rotating force of the driving roll 16, is calculated by a crack position predicting system 5. The driving roll 16 is controlled to less than the limited strain epsilonc%, which the calculated value develops the internal crack of the cast slab, by rotating force control system 6 for driving roll. The development of internal crack of the cast slab is prevented without any changing the casting speed or the cooling water quantity, and the continuous casting is safely and economically executed.
