PURPOSE:To produce a low-decarbonized spring steel having excellent fatigue strength, by incorporating specific ratios of C, Si, Mn, Pb, Bi and Sn into Fe. CONSTITUTION:The steel contg., by weight, 0.40-0.75% C, 1.0-2.5% Si and 0.5-1.0% Mn, contg. one or more kinds selected among <=0.3% Pb, Bi and Sn and consisting of the balance Fe with impurities is prepared. By this method, the generation of ferrite decarbonization can be prevented at the time of hot rolling and heat treatment even in a high Si spring steel and the spring material having the excellent strength, settling resistance and fatigue strength is obtd.
