Respiration system comprises a mask (10) connected to a hose (5). This is supplied with air by a fan driven by an electric motor. The motor is controlled by signals from a sensor sent to a processor which determines the gas composition during the inspiration and expiration phases. These values are compared with the values when e.g. leakage is eliminated. The pressure is reduced over time to give a constant gas pressure during inspiration and reduced pressure during expiration.
