PURPOSE:To start a rotating machine without being detached from a power bus up to final-stage tap voltage by mounting a thyristor device between a final-stage tap switch and a final-stage tap for an auto-transformer. CONSTITUTION:The firing angle of a thyristor device 8 is set at a firing angle where the terminal voltage of a rotating electric machine 1 is brought to the value of a first stage tap, and a neutral switch 6, a switch 5 and a switch 7g are closed. The firing angle of the thyristor device 8 is changed and controlled after a fixed time, and the rotating electric machine 1 is supplied with second-stage tap voltage. The neutral switch 6 is opened, a switch 3 is closed and full voltage is fed to the rotating electric machine 1. According ly, the supply voltage of the rotating electric machine 1 can be fluctuated without being detached from a power bus 2, thus preventing the generation of rush currents.
