PURPOSE:To obtain an antiulcer agent, containing 2-buten-4-olide as an active ingredient, effective in preventing or treating peptic ulcer and capable of exhibiting action thereof in an extremely small amount. CONSTITUTION:An antiulcer agent obtained by containing 2-buten-4-olide known to act on appestat center of hypothalamus as an active ingredient. The above- mentioned compound has powerful antiulcer action, inhibitory action on gastric acid secretion and improving action on digestive tract movement with high safety and low toxicity and is preferably administered in an amount of 0.01-1,000mg/day in 1-3 divided portions a day for an adult.
