PURPOSE:To collect a necessary minimum samples automatically and easily by a small-sized device by performing electric discharging while interposing insulating working liquid between a thin plate electrode and a work. CONSTITUTION:A rectangular groove 2 is cut previously in the surface of the work 1 to be sampled. A working liquid container 7 is formed on the surface of this work 1 and filled with the insulating working liquid. Then the U-shaped metallic thin plate electrode 3 is arranged at one position 3a of the groove 2 formed in the work and a power source for electric discharging work is connected between the electrode 3 and work to apply a current, thereby causing electric discharge in the insulating working liquid between the electrode 3 and work 11. At this time, an electric motor 4 for movement rotates to drive a screw shaft 5, and the electrode 3 also moves as shown by an arrow together with a nut 6 to advance cutting until the electrode reaches a position 3b.
