PURPOSE:To make an engine startable with both automatic and manual ways, by installing each clutch between the starter pulley coupled with a crankshaft and reduction gears connected to a DC motor as well as between the reel connected to a starter rope and the starter pulley, respectively. CONSTITUTION:When a two-cycle engine is automatically starter, a DC motor 38 is driven. If so, after the turning force decelerated by each of planetary gears 42 and 44 is transmitted to an output shaft 66, it is transmitted to a starter pulley 32 via an engaged member 68 and a claw member 70, whereby a crankshaft 20 is rotated. Afterward, when the turning force goes up, the engaged member 68 and the claw member 70 are separated off. On the other hand, when the engine is manually started, a starter knob 82 is held, pulling a starter rope 80. If so, a reel 78 rotates, and the turning force is transmitted to the starter pulley 32 via a claw member 86, thus the crankshaft 20 is rotated. Afterward, the starter pulley 32 and the reel 78 are separated.
