PURPOSE:To erase a detected value based upon a flaw, the gloss, etc., of the surface of fruits and to perform accurate classification by calculating respective mean detected values from a proper number of detected values in the vicinity of the maximum values among detected values of respective color sensors which are obtained within a specific time. CONSTITUTION:When fruits 1 are lighted and conveyed at a color detector part in a process wherein fruits 1 are conveyed on a fruit conveyor 2 in array, plural color sensors 3 detects the colors of the fruits in plural directions. Only a proper detected values in the vicinity of the maximum value among many detected values which are detected by each color sensor 3 in each scan within the certain time are employed, others are excluded, and the respective mean values of the plural color sensors 3 are calculated by an averaging program. Further, a decision value for further averaging the mean values as many as the color sensors 3 is calculated by a proper mean value calculating method such as an arithmetic mean method and a geometric mean method.
