PRODUCTION OF ELECTROFORMED METAL MOLD

PURPOSE:To produce a metal mold for a large-sized molded product by coating a matrix with a coating material contg. Pd and Cr dispersed in bisphenol A type epoxy resin before electroless plating so as to facilitate the stripping of a metal electrodeposited by electroforming. CONSTITUTION:An electrically nonconductive matrix is degreased and coated with a coating material contg. Pd and Cu dispersed in bisphenol A type epoxy resin. A formed film is dried at about 150-200 deg.C for about 20-40min and activated acid treatment and washing. After the matrix is made electrically conductive by conventional electroless plating with an N-Pi bath or the like, the matrix is immersed in an electroforming bath to form a metallic layer by the electrolysis. The metallic layer can easily be stripped from the matrix and an electroformed metal mold suitable for used as a mold for injection molding resin into a large-sized molded product is obtd.
