PURPOSE:To prevent a transfer drop-out even if a material to be transferred is thick and there is a spacing between said materials by passing the material to be transferred through a guide member and applying a sufficient electric charge thereto prior to transfer of a latent image on said material. CONSTITUTION:An electrostatic charger 25 which electrostatically charges the surface of a photosensitive body 22, an exposing device 26 which forms the electrostatic latent image on the drum 22 by scanning and exposing with a laser beam, a developing device 28 which supplies a developer to the electrostatic latent image and develops said image, and a transfer charger 30 which transfers the electrostatic latent image to paper are disposed around the drum 22. The electrostatic latent image is developed by the developer to form a developer image after formation of the electrostatic latent image on an image carrier 22. The developer image is then conveyed to the transfer charger 30 and is transferred to the material 12 to be transferred. The transfer side of the material 12 is passed through the guide member before transferring and the sufficient electric charge is applied to said side. The charge image is thereby obtd. even with the material 12 having the partial thickness or spacing.
