PURPOSE:To obtain the titled composition having excellent practical properties, smoothness for combing, frothability, etc., by compounding specific amounts of ampholytic phosphate surfactant and a cationic polymer to a base composed of anionic, nonionic and/or ampholytic surfactants. CONSTITUTION:The objective shampoo composition having excellent practical properties (functional characteristic in hair-washing and finishing characteristics of hair after drying) and smoothness for combing as well as frothability, etc., is produced by compounding a shampoo substrate consisting of one or more kinds of surfactants selected from anionic surfactant, nonionic surfactant and ampholytic surfactant with (A) an ampholytic phosphate surfactant of formula (R' is straight or branched-chain saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon group having 8-18 carbon atoms on an average; M is cation derived from alkali metal, ammonium or triethanolamine) and (B) a cationic polymer. The amounts of the components A and B are 0.1-20wt.% and 0.05-2.5wt.% based on the shampoo composition, respectively.
