PURPOSE:To improve efficiency of photooxidation of a photooxidation catalyst and to remove CN ion, bichromate ion, etc., from the catalyst by forming the photooxidation catalyst by depositing TiO2 and a Pt group metal in the pores of a porous glass membrane. CONSTITUTION:A porous glass membrane is treated with alkali after impregnating the membrane with a soln. contg. a water-soluble Ti compd. Further, the membrane is impregnated with a soln. contg. a water-soluble Pt group metal compd., dried and calcined at 300-800 deg.C to produce thus a photooxidation catalyst. A porous glass membrane comprising silica glass such as glass contg. SiO2, B2O3, Na2O, Al2O3, etc. is preferred. Examples for the water-soluble Pt group metal compd. are chloroplatinic acid, potassium chloroplatinate, ruthenium trichloride, osmium trichloride, rhodium trichloride, rhodium sulfate, etc.
