PURPOSE:To realize an optimum welding process by rotating a cathode coaxially on electron beams and a allowing long axis of an elliptical beam spot to be identified with a welding line of a matter to be welded. CONSTITUTION:In an electron gun 1 for electron beam welding use, which radiates electron beams to form an elliptical beam spot, a cathode is rotated coaxially on the electron beams so as to provide means in which a long axis of the elliptical beam spot is identified with a welding line of a matter to be welded 6. Namely, the rotation amount of an image by a magnetic lens 10 is corrected by using an electron beam image rotation amount correcting device 7 to compute an addition of the amount of shift in advance and the amount of correction which is determined by a lens current setting device 8 and an electron beam acceleration voltage setting device 9. The amount of positioning correction in the rotational direction of an elliptical electron beam image is determined by rotating a motor 4. The electron gun 1 for electron beam welding is rotated through gears 2 and 3 for electron gun rotation so that the direction of the elliptical electron beam spot is corrected to perform an optimum welding process.
