PURPOSE:To reduce the size and weight of a titled device by using a recording and reading unit which transfers an accumulation type fluorescent material sheet between a housing and a light shielding cover which pops out of this housing for the purpose of sub-scanning of excitation light at the time of image reading. CONSTITUTION:The small-sized recording and reading unit 20 which contains the accumulation type fluorescent material sheet 22 and has image recording, reading and erasing function is provided. Split photographing is executed by moving the entire part of this unit or the accumulation type fluorescent material sheet in said unit. An aperture to pass the light shielding cover 26 to one end of the unit housing 25 housing the sheet 22 is provided to the unit 20. The sheet 22, thereby advances into the cover 26 poping out of the housing 25 into the housing or advances into the poping out light shielding cover at the time of reading the radiation image information from said sheet. Namely, the housing itself of the unit 20 is simply required to be formed to the size as much as to permit housing of the light shielding cover and the accumulation type fluorescent material sheet. The size of the device is thereby reduced.
