PURPOSE:To reduce the size over the entire part of a device and to speed up processing by moving a reading and erasing unit back and forth relative to an accumulative fluorescent material sheet thereby executing reading and erasing. CONSTITUTION:The reading and erasing unit which can move back and forth relative to the accumulative fluorescent material sheet 2 is integrated with an image reading means 40 consisting of an excitation light irradiating means 20 and a photoelectric reading means and two erasing parts respectively provided on both sides of the image reading means 40 in the direction perpendicular to the irradiation direction of the excitation light in one unit and has a light shielding means between the image reading means 40 and the erasing means 60, 70. This reading and erasing unit reads the image information by the image reading means 30 and erases the information by the one erasing means 60 in the forward movement. The unit reads the image information by the means 40 and erases the information by the other means 70 in the backward movement. The size of the means 60, 70 is thereby reduced and the entire part of the device is formed to the smaller size. Increasing of the reading and erasing speeds up to about twice higher speeds is possible.
