PURPOSE:To send a data in matching with the characteristic of an opposite terminal equipment by providing a teletex terminal equipment and a facsimile terminal equipment in an equipment so as to allow a reception opposite party to identify automatically whether the terminal equipment is the teletex terminal equipment or the facsimile equipment. CONSTITUTION:A reply signal demodulated by a teletex MODEM 4 and a facsimile equipment MODEM 5 is given to a teletex procedure control section 6 and a ficsimile procedure control section 7. When the reply signal is an MCI signal (by the CCITT recommendations), since the teletex procedure control section 8 can analyze the signal, it is recognized by the opposite party to be the teletex terminal equipment, and the succeeding procedure control is advanced by the a teletex procedure control section 6. When the reply signal is a DIS signal (by the CCITT recommendations), since the facsimile procedure control section 7 can analyze the signal, the opposed party is recognized to be the facsimile terminal equipment and the succeeding procedure control is advanced by the facsimile procedure control section 7.
