PURPOSE:To perform the stable automatic feed of sheets, by a method wherein an initial conveyance spring to press a recording medium against a feed roller and a press force regulating means for a conveyance spring are provided, and through selection of the one of a plurality of regulating part, a press force is regulated. CONSTITUTION:An initial conveyance spring 1 is a leaf spring, and is nipped between a seat plate 16 secured on a rotary shaft 6 and a press metal 5. Meanwhile, a regulating metal 10 is mounted rotatably in a direction H around a shaft 11, an arcuate extension part 10a is formed to the upper end thereof, and a plurality of regulating holes 9 are formed in an arcuate shape. The upper end of the regulating metal 10 is normally energized in a direction F through the force of a compression spring 12, and the other end is connected to a solenoid valve 13. Rotation in a direction H of the regulating metal 10 by exciting the solenoid 13 to change a coupling position between a pin 8 and the regulating hole 9 may suffice for decrease of the press force of the conveyance spring 1.
