PURPOSE:To enable a printing processing free from the shortage or expansion of printing characters, etc., to be applied even to a bound notebook or a recording paper of more than a specified size with a specified arbitrary printing length, by a method wherein a means which prints stored data on the recording paper by traveling a device body and a means which stops the printing action when the printing reaches the specified printing length for one line are provided. CONSTITUTION:Due to the rotation of rubber rollers 31, 32 accompanying the travel of a device body 10, an encoder disk 38 rotates and the light to be sent to a photosensors 40 is intermittently controlled. This is sent to a control part 51 and a thermal head drive circuit 57 as a travel amount detection signal and, simultaneously, a ribbon take-up spool 23b rotates. A specified printing length for one line is set in a register LEN, a digit pitch is set in a register K, the character data in a storage part 56 is set in a register A, and the printing-direction length of the character data set in the register A is set in a register B. During the repeat of a printing processing per character, the previously designated document data is read from the sentence data storage part 56 and, then, the control part 51 outputs a printing stop command.
