PURPOSE:To define the leading position of a desired word by retrieving a text memory by retrieving the position of a KANJI (Chinese character) added with the modified information of a position the nearest to a cursor position in a text search part. CONSTITUTION:Document information is stored in the text memory 5, and then, the leading positions of the respective words are stored in a KANJI (Chinese character) reading registering part 12. When there is an input from an input part 3, a main control part 1 instructs to retrieve the modified information in the nearest position after the current cursor position to the text search part 17. Then, the retrieved position information is stored in a cursor address part 6. The main control part 1 reads the information only of the number of characters stored in a current KANJI area 15a from a position corresponding to the information of the cursor address part 6 from the text memory 17 and stores in a refuge buffer 13. At the same time, the contents of the address part 6 are stored in a leading position register 14.
