PURPOSE:To prevent printing speed from being delayed owing to a time accompanying transfer of a head, by a method wherein whether a non-recording area which extends over not less than two column contents is formed by recording data or not is judged, and in the case where the non-recording area is not formed, recording operation is continued in a state where the head is brought into contact with a platen. CONSTITUTION:In the case where it is judged by a judgement means 12 that recording data indicate a space, whether recording data just before the present one also indicate the space is judged thereby. In the case where the recording data just before the present one indicate the space, a control means 14 drives a solenoid 13, moves an electrothermal head to a waiting position, and moves a carriage 4 by one character content without winding an ink ribbon 6. Then, when the recording data indicating the space continues to be sent, the electrothermal head 1 is kept at the waiting position as it is, and only the carriage 4 moves without winding the ink ribbon 6. Since the head moves to the waiting position thereby only when a non-recording area of not less than two columns is formed, printing speed grows fast. |
