PURPOSE:To easily perform gain adjusting work, by generating the optimum distance data to be adjusted in a gain in accordance with the input set magnification to display the same. CONSTITUTION:Set magnification is supplied to a distance data generating circuit 9 from a magnification switch for setting the magnification of an ultrasonic image. The distance data generating circuit 9 forms the distance data in a depth direction to be adjusted in a gain on the basis of the inputted set magnification and supplies the same to an STC circuit 10. The STC circuit 10 displays said distance data and outputs the gain signal in each distance to a log compression circuit 8. The log compression circuit 8 adds the gain signal from the STC circuit 10 to a receiving signal subjected to phase matching to output the signal adjusted in a gain at each area to a detection circuit 11. The output of the detection circuit 11 is supplied to a monitor 15 through an A/D converter 12, a frame memory 13 and a D/A converter 14.
